Billionaire Elon Musk reacted with irony to the Republicans’ defeat in the U.S. midterm elections, despite record spending to support his party’s candidates. During this election cycle, he spent about $445 million, becoming the largest individual political donor in the country’s modern history. The Republicans’ defeat in Texas was particularly painful for Musk. Democrat Gina Inohosa, who had opposed the aggressive construction of data centers in the state, unexpectedly won the gubernatorial election.
