The U.S. Will Cut Iran Off From Russia, Central Asia, And China

Washington is tightening the blockade.

The U.S. intends to cut off Iran’s channels for the supply of weapons, technology, and sanctioned goods via land borders, the Caspian Sea, and other bypass routes. To this end, the U.S. military is establishing a special task force, Task Force Iron Gate, which will target not only illegal shipments but also the financial flows that help Tehran circumvent sanctions. The naval blockade has already prevented Iran from exporting more than $25 billion worth of oil, according to Reuters (translation — Charter97.org website).

The new group’s headquarters will be located in Tampa, Florida. It will coordinate with the U.S. Departments of the Treasury, Justice, and State, as well as U.S. intelligence agencies.

“Strengthening CENTCOM’s coordination with U.S. agencies will further limit Iran’s ability to finance terrorism, rebuild weapons factories, and replenish military stockpiles,” said Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command.

Since January 2025, Iran has imported at least $2 billion worth of equipment, explosives, and heavy trucks. The shipments arrived by sea from Russia via the Caspian Sea, by road from Central Asia, and by cargo planes from China.

Despite U.S. strikes and the oil blockade, Iranian authorities have managed to maintain these supply channels. According to U.S. intelligence estimates, new airstrikes are also unlikely to force Tehran to change its negotiating position or lead to the fall of the current government.

Amid mounting pressure, mediators are trying to negotiate an end to the war, but Donald Trump is already threatening new strikes against Iran.
