The Democrats, Who Won The U.S. Congressional Elections, Have Decided To Introduce A Bill Imposing “severe Sanctions” Against Russia

In addition, a $15 billion military aid package for Ukraine is being prepared on an urgent basis.

The Democrats, who won a majority in both chambers of the U.S. Congress as a result of the midterm elections, plan to provide Ukraine with a new $15 billion military aid package.

This was reported by the Financial Times, citing a party spokesperson. The initiative is expected to be approved before the change in the composition of Congress in January and included in the draft annual defense budget (NDAA), which must be adopted before the current session ends. The rush is driven by concerns about Ukraine’s energy sector ahead of the coming winter.

In addition, Democrats plan to introduce a bill on “hellish sanctions” against Russia, which U.S. President Donald Trump put on hold following a diesel deal with Vladimir Putin.

“We will amend the bill [of the late Republican Senator Lindsey] Graham. It took a year and a half to impose sanctions against Russia, and then they were simply lifted,” said a Democratic aide on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

They also want to investigate the diesel deal itself, along with the potential business interests of Trump’s special envoys Steve Whitcoff and Jared Kushner. However, the Democrats do not have the two-thirds majority needed to override a presidential veto, so they will have to secure support from Republicans to carry out their plans.
