One of them, Jakub Kulik, is a former soldier in the airborne brigade.

Among the 16 people injured in the shooting in Krakow are two police officers who heroically apprehended the 24-year-old attacker. They are in the hospital in serious condition, according to TVN24.

As Prime Minister Donald Tusk reported on social media platform X, the police officers injured while apprehending and subduing a 24-year-old attacker in Kraków are Senior Patrol Officer Jakub Kulik and Senior Patrol Officer Artur Moranski. He emphasized that they “likely saved many lives, regardless of the risk to their own lives.” Footage of their actions has gone viral online.

“Their condition is serious, but they are receiving excellent care. All of Poland is rooting for you,” the prime minister wrote.

In addition to the police officers, 14 people were injured (including the attacker), and six were killed. Three more were found dead in an apartment building in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, where the young man lived.

– As for the condition of the two police officers, both are injured: one has a single gunshot wound. Doctors report that his life is not in danger at this time. The condition of the second police officer is very, very serious. He has three gunshot wounds, and doctors are continuing to treat him,” said Interior Minister Marcin Kervinsky on Saturday.

Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek wrote on the social media platform X late Saturday night into Sunday that Senior Patrol Officer Jakub Kulik, who has a damaged lung, is “fighting for his life” and needs blood.

“We need AB Rh+ blood. I ask everyone who can help to contact blood donation centers throughout Poland. When donating blood, please clearly indicate that it is intended for Jakub Kulik,” urged Żurek.

The head of the National Security Bureau Bartosz Grodecki noted in his post on X that “the police officers showed exceptional courage in stopping the attacker,” and that “it is the state’s duty to provide them and their families with all necessary assistance.”

One of the police officers is a former soldier

The 6th Airborne Brigade named after Brigadier General Stanisław Sosabowski reported that Senior Patrolman Jakub Kulik is a former soldier from their unit who joined the police force after completing his military service. The brigade also called on people to donate blood.

According to a Facebook post by the Leszczyny Volunteer Fire Department in Bielsko-Biała, Jakub Kulik is also a member of their unit.
