Turkey, the Netherlands and Italy will be the first to receive U.S. raw materials.
The United States for the first time in history began to supply crude oil from its strategic reserve to other countries. Turkey, the Netherlands and Italy will be the first to receive American crude.
The Reuters reports this.
The White House is trying to curb the sharp rise in fuel prices, which has intensified due to the war in Iran and instability in the global energy market.
As part of this plan, the US has decided to release 172 million barrels of oil from the strategic oil reserve. At the same time, the International Energy Agency is preparing to release a record 400 million barrels of crude.
The first country where U.S. oil is already headed is Turkey. The Greek-flagged tanker North Star loaded about 680,000 barrels of low-sulfur crude from the Bryan Mound reserve near Texas City in April.
The ship is expected to arrive at the Turkish port of Aliaga in mid-May.
The second shipment is even bigger. The Hong Kong-flagged tanker DHT Antelope loaded 1.1 million barrels of oil offshore Galveston in late April. The transfer of raw materials took place from one vessel to another on the high seas.
Besides Turkey, oil from the US strategic reserves has already been sent to Italy and the Netherlands. Washington expects in this way to partially compensate for the deficit that has arisen due to the military conflict in the Middle East.
