The Kremlin's propaganda event will look pathetic.
Russian dictator Putin is forced to hold the Kremlin's main propaganda event almost entirely alone, and to significantly change its format because of the consequences of the war against Ukraine, writes "Dialogue".
The event in question is the military parade on May 9, which is attended by fewer and fewer foreign leaders every year. Even Putin's so-called "friends" now ignore the event. For example, the head of Slovakia's government Robert Fitzo intends to visit Moscow, but refused to participate in the military parade itself.
Serbian President Alexander Vucic, who attended the parade in person in 2025, has not yet confirmed his intentions to visit the Russian capital this time. At the end of April, he said he was considering a visit, but on May 6 he limited himself to a congratulatory address delivered through diplomatic channels.
Hungary, which has previously avoided participating in Moscow parades, will not be represented at a high level in 2026 either, especially since Kremlin-loyal Prime Minister Viktor Orban has only days left in office. The lack of confirmation of the visit by Chinese leader Si Jinping is particularly noteworthy. In 2025, he was the parade's chief foreign guest. In the same year, a few days before May 9, there were no official announcements about his visit.
Lukashenko's desire to come to the parade was reported by his press service after the dictator's conversation with Putin on April 12.
