Ukraine has turned the tide of the war.
During May 2026, the Ukrainian military regained control of twice as much territory as the Russian army was able to capture during the same period.
This was stated by Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defense for European Integration Serhiy Boev during a panel discussion at the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2026) in Gdańsk on Thursday, June 25, reports “Interfax-Ukraine”. According to him, a “window of opportunity” has now opened on the front lines that will allow for a faster end to the war, provided there is adequate assistance from Western partners.
“We have already achieved a great deal thanks to the solidarity of our partners, and we believe that over the past few months we have managed to open this window of opportunity. Last month, the area of territory we liberated was twice the size of the territory occupied by Russia,” the official emphasized.
According to Boev, Ukraine’s investments in its own production of strike drones are already yielding tangible results that directly impact the aggressor country’s economic potential and disrupt enemy logistics. The Ministry of Defense humorously refers to these long-range attacks as “middle-strike.”
The defense ministry spokesperson emphasized that it is the Armed Forces of Ukraine that are currently containing the most significant security threat on the European continent.
“We have a real and very good chance to double our current efforts. If we receive adequate funding and investment in modern deterrents, we will be able to force the aggressor to stop and truly put an end to this war,” the deputy minister concluded.
