Bloomberg: Ukrainian Missiles Now Reach Half Of Russia's Territory

Including Siberia and the Caucasus.

Ukrainian strikes are increasingly reaching deep into Russian territory, and air raid alerts are now being reported in nearly half of the country's regions, according to Bloomberg.

According to the publication, in the past week alone, missile alerts were issued in at least five regions of the Volga Federal District, in southern regions—particularly in Astrakhan—as well as in at least four regions of the North Caucasus. Similar alerts were also issued in central Russia—in the Moscow, Vladimir, Tambov, Oryol, and Lipetsk regions.

Analysts note that the geographic scope of the alerts demonstrates a significant change in the nature of Ukrainian strikes and an expansion of their range. Whereas air raid alerts were previously limited mainly to border regions, they now cover much more remote areas of Russia.

According to Bloomberg, missile alerts have been issued at least once this year in regions home to more than 70% of Russia’s population.

Drones are reaching everywhere

Separately, threats are being detected in previously remote regions. In particular, the Omsk Region in Western Siberia, nearly 3,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, issued its first missile alert in June. Similar alerts were also issued in the Ural region.

In a number of cities, the consequences of the attacks are already affecting the lives of civilians. For example, in Samara, public transportation was temporarily suspended during one of the alerts.

There are also reports of the consequences of strikes on Russian infrastructure. In the Voronezh region, five people were killed following one of the attacks, and two in the Volgograd region. Additionally, a fire continues to burn at an oil refinery in the Krasnodar region following a massive drone strike.

Ukraine Has Changed Its Strategy

Ukraine is increasingly using long-range drones and domestically produced cruise missiles, specifically the “Neptune” and “Flamingo.” According to open-source data, their range can reach between 1,000 and 3,000 kilometers, allowing them to strike targets across a significant portion of Russia’s European territory.

Military analysts note that such strikes have not only military but also economic and psychological effects.

“Ukraine often tries to overwhelm Russian air defenses with drones so that cruise missiles can get through,” said Sam Cranny-Evans, a military analyst at the Royal United Services Institute in London.

Douglas Barry , a senior research fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies , also believes that this marks a qualitative shift in the nature of the campaign:
“This marks a significant evolution in Ukraine’s long-range strike campaign.”

According to him, strikes against Russian infrastructure “damage elements of the industrial military base, deal a blow to the economy, and show the population that war comes at a price.”
