When Will Belarusians Be Able To Enjoy The Summer?

We have some good news to look forward to at the start of the new week.
Weather forecasters never tire of repeating that a warming trend began in the 1980s. Belarusians joke that this means you have to dress just as warmly in July as you do in March. For example, in Minsk, it was just as warm on March 9 as it was on July 9—12 degrees Celsius. A cold July is frustrating, forcing people to change their plans and lament that half the summer has passed, yet there still hasn’t been any truly consistent summer weather, writes “Komsomolskaya Pravda”.
After a wild heatwave with temperatures above 35—and in some places even over 40—degrees, the thermometer dropped by more than 20 degrees. And yet July is considered the warmest summer month in Belarus. We’ll just have to accept that Cyclone “Bernadette” has hit Belarus.
Marina Gritskevich, head of the meteorological forecasting service at Belhydromet , responded optimistically when asked when we’ll finally be able to enjoy summer:
- Don’t despair—it’s still the middle of summer. We have two more months to go. Unfortunately, I can’t offer any good news until the end of this week. Temperatures will continue to be below normal, specifically 1.4 degrees below average. Nights will be cool, 9–15 degrees, and days will range from 15 to 24. But we’ve already gotten through the coldest day—yesterday (July 8—Ed.)—she said at the National Press Center of Belarus.
So it’s high time to recall the bard’s words: “Hang in there, folks, summer is coming!”
- Good news awaits us at the start of the new week. Temperatures will begin to rise due to the advection of warm air masses, so nighttime highs will range from 13 to 19 degrees, and daytime highs from 20 to 29 degrees,” the meteorologist announced cheerfully.
