Some of them were rigged with explosives.
Romanian officials stated that five maritime drones, some of which were equipped with explosives, were detected and destroyed in the Black Sea.
This was announced by Romania’s acting Minister of Defense Radu Miruță, according to Digi24.
“Debris from the destroyed drones was found in the sea; some of them contained explosives, while others did not,” he noted.
The minister clarified that four such incidents occurred before the drone explosion in the port of Constanța, and another one—presumably—after it.
Commenting on the lack of a separate public report from the Romanian Army regarding the explosion at the port, Miruce explained that, in peacetime, security at the Port of Constanța does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Armed Forces.
“The Romanian Army does not provide security for the Port of Constanța in peacetime. The Romanian Army is one of Romania’s state agencies that intervenes in such situations during peacetime when called upon for support. There are Romanian state agencies that, by law, are responsible for this during peacetime,” he emphasized.
On June 5, a maritime drone exploded in the Romanian port of Constanța. The incident occurred in the morning at berths 77–78, near the headquarters of the Romanian Agency for the Safety of Human Life at Sea (ARSVOM) and an oil terminal.
