On October 8, 2015, it was reported that the Nobel Prize in Literature had been awarded to Belarusian writer Svetlana Alexievich.

Svetlana Alexievich’s works are effectively banned in Belarus.

Belarusian human rights activist and political prisoner Ales Beliatski was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on October 7, 2022. At the time, he was behind bars.
