79-year-old Nina Baginskaya Was Detained On The Street In Minsk

Security forces searched her belongings without explanation.

Security forces detained the well-known civil society activist Nina Baginskaya on the street in Minsk. Without providing any explanation, they searched her personal belongings and took a book from her bag.

Eyewitnesses to the incident reported this to “Belsat”. It is unknown exactly which book was in Baginskaya’s bag. This time, the pensioner was not taken to the police station, but the officers refused to return the book.

Last year, on May 30, Nina Baginskaya was tried under Part 2 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code of Belarus—“Repeated violation of the law on holding mass events.” The charges were based on administrative reports and court rulings from 2024. All of them concerned the use of national symbols, and one report was filed over a T-shirt bearing the inscription: “No to war!” At that time, the court applied Article 79 of the Criminal Code of Belarus—“Conviction without imposition of punishment.” However, Baginskaya was placed under “preventive supervision.”

Nina Baginskaya has been repeatedly fined for using national symbols.
