The EU Has Imposed Sanctions On Belarusian Oil Refineries

The EU has adopted its 21st package of sanctions against Russia, which also includes Belarus. As the head of EU diplomacy Kaja Kallas clarified, the sanctions will affect more than a hundred banks, cryptocurrency exchange operators, and more than 40 vessels in the “shadow fleet.”

Sanctions will also be imposed on oil refineries in Russia and Belarus. As a reminder, there are two oil refineries operating in the republic—in Novopolotsk and Mozyr.

In total, the package includes 218 entities. “Our targets include over 100 banks and crypto operators, more than 40 vessels of the shadow fleet, and several oil refineries in Russia and Belarus,” — Kallas wrote on the social media platform H.

According to her, the European Union is also imposing sanctions against 50 defense companies, including those that manufacture long-range drones.

The draft EU sanctions also prohibit transactions with 32 additional Russian banks. The sanctions will also target the shadow fleet, and the adjustment of the oil price cap will be frozen for one year at $44 so that, according to Ursula von der Leyen, Russia “does not benefit from price fluctuations.”

“And we have taken an important step toward a formal ban on Russian combatants entering the EU,” the EU president added.
