Polish Ministry Of Defense: Ukrainian Pilot Tracked Russian Missile All The Way To The Border

In total, about 20 missiles were fired toward Poland.

The Ukrainian pilot tracked the Russian X-101 missile, which on July 30 violated Polish airspace and crashed on Polish territory, but was forced to turn back 20 seconds before reaching the border.

This was reported on the air by TVN 24 by Poland’s Deputy Minister of Defense Cezary Tomczyk.

According to the official, the Russians usually launch strikes with ten to twenty missiles, but in this case, “there were approximately 70 missiles in total, of which 20 were flying toward Poland at 3:00 a.m.”

“It is also worth noting that the vast majority of these missiles were shot down by Ukraine over Ukrainian territory, which evidently bore the full brunt of the strike,” the Polish Deputy Minister of Defense noted.

Tomczyk reported that a Ukrainian pilot was also tracking a missile that ultimately fell on Polish territory. “He was unable to shoot it down; he turned back 20 seconds before reaching the border,” Tomczyk said.

As the deputy minister explained, the Ukrainian aircraft was not permitted to enter Polish airspace. Furthermore, there was a risk that it could be shot down by a Polish F-16.

When asked whether the missile had been launched intentionally by the Russians, Tomchik replied that any scenario was possible.

“We don’t know, and even if we find out, it will mainly be intelligence information. The coming weeks will likely provide us with more answers,” he said.

Further procedural steps and an examination of the debris from the missile that fell on July 30 in the Lublin Voivodeship are scheduled for Friday in Poland; a Ukrainian expert will participate in the investigation.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, commenting on the crash of the Russian missile in the Lublin Voivodeship, noted that there is no reason to believe that Poland was its target.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki expects a detailed report from the government on the incident involving the Russian missile and will not convene a meeting of the National Security Council.
