Russia Has Begun Importing Gasoline From Morocco

This is now the third country from which Russia has begun purchasing gasoline following the Ukrainian drone attacks.

For the first time in recent memory, Russia has imported a shipment of gasoline by sea from Morocco amid a decline in domestic fuel production, according to the agency Reuters (translation — Charter97.org website).

Approximately 30,000 metric tons of AI-92 gasoline were delivered to Russia by a Panamanian-flagged tanker. The vessel loaded its cargo at the port of Tangier in mid-July and is currently unloading the fuel in Murmansk. Lukoil was the supplier of the shipment.
The import is part of Moscow’s package of measures to stabilize the market following supply disruptions and rising gasoline prices. Other steps include increasing rail shipments from Belarus and Kazakhstan, as well as imposing restrictions on fuel exports.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated that Russia would begin purchasing petroleum products abroad to meet domestic demand. In addition to Morocco, reports have emerged of the start of maritime gasoline shipments from India.
“Russia was forced to turn to fuel imports after a decline in output at its own oil refineries,” market sources note.

The situation worsened following a series of drone attacks on Russian oil refineries. According to industry sources, by early July, gasoline production in the country had fallen to approximately 65% of the average summer consumption level, leading to disruptions and sales restrictions in certain regions.

According to the St. Petersburg International Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange, AI-92 gasoline has also begun to be offered for shipment by rail from the Kola station in the Murmansk region.
