The story is coming to a climax.
By the end of the year, Russia will lose the ability to finance the war against Ukraine, according to Russian Z-blogger and “angry patriot” Maxim Kalashnikov. He shared this grim forecast for Russia on his blog, according to Dialog.UA.
He noted that abandoning the occupation of Donbas and freezing the war along the current front lines would be a “huge political blow” to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.
However, there is likely no other option left, because continuing the war threatens the Russian Federation with collapse. “The time for tough decisions, the time for difficult choices, is approaching. Because our budget deficit is growing, and we have nothing to plug the hole… By the end of the year, we may find ourselves unable to finance the war or our security forces. Time is running out. And Zelenskyy launched his counter-escalation plan at just the right moment. He seized the opportunity. The budget situation is forcing us toward very unpleasant decisions—very difficult ones,” Kalashnikov stated.
He clarified that the options involve either seizing the public’s bank deposits, drastically cutting spending, or turning on the printing press and devaluing the ruble—which would lead to “runaway inflation” and the collapse of the entire economy. All three options are extremely dangerous for the regime and for the Russian Federation itself.
“The choice is between bad and very bad… We are at a very dangerous threshold… And very soon we will have to make a choice: agree to the terms of Trump, the EU, and Zelenskyy, stopping at the LBS, and freezing in place, or continuing the war and plunging into the most severe crisis—not just an economic one, but a systemic one. History is heading toward a denouement, toward the final blow, toward forcing our elite to accept less-than-ideal terms for ending the war,” Kalashnikov stated.
