King Charles III took a ride in a Challenger 2 tank as the crew commander and inspected the British Army’s newest tank, the Challenger 3, during his first official visit to the Royal Tank Regiment. This was reported by Sky News.
When asked after the trip what he thought of the combat vehicle, the king joked, “Very slow.” The British monarch inherited the title of Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Tank Regiment in 2022 from his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
During his current visit to the regiment, Charles III was given a tour of the Tank Museum and briefed on the history of armored vehicles from World War I to the present day. In addition, the king met with four former colonels who had commanded the Royal Tank Corps, spoke with relatives of the regiment’s servicemembers, and presented awards, including medals for outstanding service during Operation Cabrit (Operation Cabrit) for the deployment of military forces to Estonia and for long and exemplary service.
