The King Of Morocco Named Africa's Longest Highway After Trump

He described this move as a sign of respect for the U.S. president.

King Mohammed VI of Morocco has named the Tiznit–Dakhla expressway after U.S. President Donald Trump. This was reported by Morocco’s state news agency, MAP.

“As a sign of respect for this symbol of friendship and peace, and as a personal expression of my high regard, I have decided to name one of the kingdom’s most important highways the ‘Donald J. Trump Highway.’ This road, stretching over 1,055 km, is the longest highway in all of Africa,” reads the king’s letter to the U.S. president.

Mohammed VI noted that, although relations between Morocco and the U.S. have long been based on friendship, “never before have they been so strong and fruitful” as during Trump’s two presidential terms. According to the monarch, Washington’s 2020 recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara “will forever remain in the memory of Moroccans” and gave bilateral relations “unprecedented momentum.”

MAP also notes that Trump thanked Mohammed VI in response.

In December 2020, Trump announced that he had signed a declaration recognizing U.S. recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara. The White House announced at the time that the U.S. would promote the economic and social development of its relations with Morocco.
