The President Of Armenia Appointed Pashinyan As Prime Minister

The politician has headed the country's government since May 2018.

Armenian President Vaagn Khachaturyan signed a decree on Sunday appointing Nikol Pashinyan as prime minister.

The decree was published on the website of the President.

“In accordance with Article 149, Part 1 of the Constitution: to appoint Nikol Pashinyan to the office of Prime Minister,” the decree states.

As a reminder, Pashinyan’s “Civic Contract” party won the parliamentary elections on June 7 and secured a majority in the National Assembly. After the election, Pashinyan declared a “historic victory”.

Earlier on Sunday, the president signed Pashinyan’s statement on the resignation of his government. This step was part of the procedure requiring the cabinet of ministers, led by the prime minister, to resign on the day the newly elected parliament begins its work.

The “Civic Contract” party then nominated Pashinyan as a candidate for prime minister, and the president signed the corresponding decree appointing him.

Pashinyan has led the Armenian government since May 2018.
