Near Minsk, A Section Of The Bridge Railing Collapsed Into The Svisloch River

The local residents have no other way to get to the bus stop.

In the agricultural town of Novy Dvor near Minsk, part of the railing on a bridge over the Svisloch River collapsed. The railing on the pedestrian side of the bridge fell into the water, but no one was injured. Local residents fear further damage to the bridge, as they have no other route across the river to the public transportation stop, according to "Prystalichcha".

The incident occurred on August 25. According to a local resident, the collapse occurred on the side of the bridge that people use less frequently; however, she estimates that the condition of the opposite side is also poor.

Residents are particularly concerned as the school year approaches: children cross the bridge to reach the “Turn toward Novy Dvor” bus stop. There is no other way to cross the Svisloch River to reach public transportation.

The Road Maintenance and Construction Department No. 735 explained that the structure’s condition had been deteriorating, in part due to heavy freight traffic from Minsk’s industrial zone. Repairs to the bridge had been scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, but following the collapse, it was decided to begin work as early as September 7.

According to Vitaly Demida, head of the planning and production department , the bridge will be repaired in two stages, with the right and left sides closed off alternately. Traffic lights with alternating traffic will be installed for vehicles.

Currently, the pedestrian section where the railing collapsed is closed. Temporary fencing and “No Entry” signs have been installed there, and pedestrians have been redirected to the other side of the bridge.
