Journalists Have Identified A Location On The Front Lines In Ukraine Where Drones Are Useless

After the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, the dried-up reservoir in southern Ukraine has become an unusual section of the front line. Dense reed beds conceal military movements from drones, which is why combat operations here are increasingly turning into close-quarters combat and ambushes, writes The New York Times.

Russian assault teams are attempting to clear paths through the thickets toward Ukrainian positions and the city itself. They are being opposed by the Ukrainian “Brotherhood” battalion, whose fighters are using the rugged terrain for reconnaissance raids and surprise attacks.

“Where drones cannot see, a completely different war begins,” the publication writes.

Ukrainian scouts track down Russian groups, set up ambushes, take prisoners, and gather intelligence on enemy positions. In one instance, the fighters managed to evacuate a prisoner under heavy fire. Ukrainian commanders compare Russian supply routes to the “Ho Chi Minh Trail”—a network of hidden paths used by North Vietnamese forces during the Vietnam War.

According to Ukrainian sources, the effectiveness of Russian units in this sector continues to decline. An increasing number of soldiers are surrendering, in part out of fear of being “caught” in the reeds.

Meanwhile, Moscow is building up its forces in this sector, deploying hundreds of troops to the area of the former reservoir and preparing for new offensives in the Zaporizhzhia region.

The dried-up Kakhovka Reservoir has become a crucial section of the front where the advantages of drones are sharply reduced, and the outcome of clashes is increasingly determined by stealth, reconnaissance, and the ability to operate in close proximity to the enemy.
