New details have emerged about the daring operation.
A 24-year-old woman was identified as the person who planted the bomb under the car that killed a lieutenant colonel of the 6th Leningrad Army of the Russian Air Force in St. Petersburg was planted by a 24-year-old woman who flew via Turkey to Moldova on August 27, according to "Fontanka" reports.
According to the publication, unknown individuals contacted the 24-year-old Russian woman via a messaging app several months ago. They allegedly discussed the war and politics with her, then offered her the chance to plant a homemade explosive device under a specific car, and after carrying out the task, to leave Russia for Ukraine.
The publication notes that the woman is not originally from St. Petersburg.
She planted the explosive device under the undercarriage of a car on the evening of August 26 and immediately afterward went to Pulkovo Airport, from where she flew to Turkey at 5 a.m. on August 27.
According to the publication, Russian law enforcement identified the young woman and contacted their Turkish counterparts to have her detained in Turkey, but by that time she had already flown to Chisinau.
As reported by the website Charter97.org, on August 27, an explosion rocked St. Petersburg, resulting in the a lieutenant colonel of the Russian Aerospace Forces’ 6th Leningrad Army was killed. The officer’s identity has not yet been disclosed, but it is known that this military unit is directly involved in the war against Ukraine.
