Trump's Oil Company Has Begun Drilling In Greenland

Greenland Energy, an American oil company with ties to U.S. President Donald Trump’s inner circle, is preparing to begin drilling in Greenland, even though the island’s government has not granted permission to do so.
This was reported by The Guardian.
It is known that the company has already delivered some of its equipment to the island’s east coast, prompting a “strong warning” from the Greenlandic government. Authorities emphasized that no permission had been granted to unload the equipment.
“All future logistical matters must be coordinated with and approved by the Mineral Resources Authority before they can be carried out,” the Greenlandic government stated.
Greenland Energy plans to conduct exploration in the Jameson Land area. Company executives claim that oil reserves worth approximately $1 trillion may lie beneath this territory. The company plans to spend $60 million on exploratory drilling of two wells.
Greenland stopped issuing new oil licenses in 2021 due to environmental risks. At the same time, the British company 80 Mile had previously obtained exploration rights in Jameson Land.
According to Greenland Energy’s corporate documents, the American company is set to receive a controlling stake in the project in exchange for financing the exploration. It still needs permission from the authorities to begin drilling.
What’s the connection to Trump
Greenland Energy was founded in Texas last year. The company brought Phil McGraw, known as Dr. Phil and a former member of Trump’s Commission on International Religious Freedom, on board for the project.
A U.S. Navy veteran working on the Golden Dome missile defense system has also joined Greenland Energy’s board of directors. Trump himself has previously stated that control over Greenland is “vital” to the United States.
Greenland Energy CEO Larry Sweats has stated that the oil project is not linked to U.S. plans to annex Greenland.
At the same time, the publication notes that the U.S. president continues to assert territorial claims regarding the island. Against this backdrop, Greenland’s decision to grant drilling permission may have additional political implications.
When is drilling scheduled?
Initially, the company plans to drill a single well. A spokesperson for Greenland Energy stated that a ship carrying approximately 300 containers of drilling equipment is scheduled to depart from Canada on September 12.
Drilling is scheduled to begin in October.
The permit application is currently under review. The Greenlandic government stated that a requirement to immediately remove the equipment that has already been delivered would be “disproportionate.”
According to The Guardian, the planned wells may be located within a nature reserve protected under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
