A woman from Minsk gave birth to triplets and reminded the Belarusian leader of his own words: “Have three kids—ask for whatever you want.” The mother of many children asked for an apartment and hopes the promise will be kept.
Her appeal caused quite a stir on social media. However, opinions were divided in the comments. Some believe that “a promise must be kept,” especially since giving birth to three children is truly a feat.

Others are outraged. As a rule, these are people who also have three or more children but have not received subsidized housing. “How are we any worse?” such parents ask, calling the Minsk woman’s appeal “arrogance.”
“Well, why is that brazen? Since Lukashenko said it, the woman at least has the right to ask. Who made him say that?” – argues Vladimir Kovalin, project manager at Petitions.pro . – Lukashenko himself created a paternalistic state and, together with his propaganda, promotes this image.
But in general, the very situation where a person is left with only one option to solve a problem—turning to TikTok—is, of course, abnormal.
It’s normal when a country has both affordable mortgages and government support.
It’s important to understand that with the birth of even a second child in Belarus, the risk of “child poverty” increases significantly. And a third child means almost guaranteed “child poverty” for the family.
I’m not talking about extreme poverty, where there’s nothing to eat. Child poverty is a state where only basic needs are met—that is, food and clothing—and that’s it.
For everything else—development, education, recreation, health, and sports—parents have neither the money nor the time. And the risk of such “child poverty” is particularly high in large families.
But it makes sense to fight this “child poverty.” This isn’t even about supporting parents—it’s directly about supporting children, since it’s not their fault that they were born into a large family.
– How can we combat “child poverty”?
– Most often, benefits and subsidies are provided for such families at various levels: preferential mortgages, financial assistance, subsidies for extracurricular activities, priority enrollment in preschools and schools, and so on.
In a normal country, support comes from various sources so that parents can send their children to daycare and school without any problems or waiting in line, while they themselves can go to work and earn a living.
If it’s impossible to give everyone an apartment, then at least provide rental housing to everyone—housing that’s appropriate for the size of their family—at a very low cost. That’s also an option.
But solving problems through TikTok is definitely not normal.
– So it turns out Lukashenko has fallen into the trap of his own promises. What can he do?
– It’s a tricky situation for him. On the one hand, he could use this for some good PR: just go ahead and provide this family with an apartment.
But then another problem will arise—everyone else will want the same thing and start recording their appeals.
It might be difficult to pretend he didn’t hear it or that the appeal didn’t reach him, given all the publicity.
Therefore, it’s possible that he’ll pass the decision on how to resolve the issue to the local executive committee.
Perhaps he’ll instruct them to at least find rental housing to let the issue blow over. Because obviously, if they simply grant this family’s request, it will set a precedent. And there aren’t enough apartments to go around.
— Why did this appeal generate such a strong response?
— First, because the woman literally caught the governor in his own words. Second, she touched on the age-old issue of large families and those who oppose them. This debate has existed for many years in our society.
