Solodukha Began To Curry Favor With Lukashenko After His Criticism

A court singer fell out of favor because of a "goose."

Singer Alexander Solodukha recounted on the “RTR-Belarus” television channel how Lukashenko sang his iconic song “Chuzhaya Milaya” with him in 1995, reports the Belarusian “Komsomolskaya Pravda”.

“Suddenly, out of the blue, Alexander Grigoryevich said, ‘Sasha, sing your signature song,’” Solodukha recalls, clarifying that he was referring to the song “Chuzhaya Milaya.”Alexander Grigoryevich stood up, resting his elbow on the piano like an opera singer. There was dead silence. Members of the government, artists, poets, composers. I started singing, and Alexander Grigoryevich began singing the chorus along with me,” Solodukha shared in his recollection. “We performed this song together, returned to the table, and Alexander Grigoryevich raised his glass and said, ‘Now I understand who should represent our country far beyond its borders: you, your voice, and your talent.’”

As a reminder, Lukashenko had previously was notably angered by an advertisement for the gambling industry, which had been operating successfully and thriving in the country for years with the full connivance of the authorities. The dictator also criticized an advertisement featuring Solodukha, who suggested “spinning the goose.”

“What’s going on in this country: everyone here is ‘spinning the goose.’ Take note, and seriously address this,” he instructed.

The phrase “spin the goose” became famous thanks to the bookmaker “Maxline,” in whose ad the singer appeared.
