Lukashenko Brought The Controversial General Muraveiko Into His Administration

The former chief of the General Staff was known for his outrageous statements

Lukashenko appointed Pavel Muraveiko as deputy head of his administration. Prior to this, he served as Chief of the General Staff—First Deputy Minister of Defense.

Vladimir Bely will take Muraveiko’s place at the General Staff. He previously served as deputy defense minister.

The former chief of the General Staff of Belarus is remembered for his outlandish statements. In 2023, Muraveyko declared, that Belarus had the right to “cut a corridor” through Lithuania by force of arms in response to sanctions. According to him, Lithuania had effectively banned the movement of Belarusian goods across the border, which he called economic aggression.

That same year, Muraveiko threatened to use nuclear weapons.
