British Colonel: A Scenario Like That With Lukashenko Is Entirely Possible

Most Belarusians are against the dictator.

The Russians may try to change their tactics, specifically by using Belarusian territory to launch an offensive from the north. Although Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko will not want to go to war, Ukraine must watch for signs of new Russian military activity and be prepared to respond immediately. This was stated by retired British Army Colonel and military expert Glen Grant during an appearance on “Espresso”.

He noted that one should not rule out the possibility that Russian President Vladimir Putin will exploit Belarus’s dependence on Russia and attempt to use the country’s territory for a new offensive against Ukraine.

“There is always the possibility that Putin will leverage his relationship with Belarus—or exert pressure on it—to use Belarusian territory as a corridor for an offensive. Such a scenario is entirely possible, and no commander should ignore it,” Grant warned.

According to him, Russia will try to find new ways to wage war, since it has not demonstrated any new approaches on the front lines for quite some time.

“Ukraine must be prepared for this at any moment. Russia will always try to come up with something new, so the risk of a change in its tactics must be taken seriously,” the expert noted.

However, according to Grant, the Belarusian dictator will continue to avoid involving his army in the war against Ukraine.

“We’ll probably never know what’s really going on between Putin and Lukashenko. Lukashenko has so far quite skillfully avoided being directly drawn into the war, and I don’t think he’ll want to change that,” the colonel said.

The expert added that Belarus’s entry into the conflict would pose serious domestic political risks for Lukashenko himself, as many Belarusians do not support his rule.

He speculated that the overall situation may remain stable in the near future, but changes will occur later as the war progresses.

“I’m confident that changes will occur in this war in the near future. Exactly where and what those changes will be—I cannot predict,” Grant said.

According to him, the Ukrainian command must promptly analyze the enemy’s actions, identify preparations for new operations in a timely manner, and be ready to adapt.

“We need to react very quickly, spot the signs that something new is being prepared in time, and be ready for it,” the expert noted.
