But he'll return to Grodno.
The congress of the Union of Poles in Belarus, which had been scheduled for September, will be held at a later date—this decision was made by the organization’s council at a meeting in Białystok. This was reported by journalist, organization activist, and former political prisoner Andrzej Pochobut on his Facebook on September 5.
“The Council has decided to postpone the organization’s congress, which was scheduled for September 13. Logistical issues were the deciding factor. The congress will take place within the next six months,” Pochobut wrote, emphasizing: “The postponement of the congress does not change my plans regarding my return to Grodno.”
Back in early June, the former political prisoner stated that he planned to return to Grodno in early September—before the congress of the Union of Poles in Belarus:
“In September, before the congress of the Union of Poles in Belarus, I will return to Belarus. Things could turn out differently, but I am optimistic. “I wouldn’t have agreed to leave if I hadn’t received a passport and assurances that I would be able to return to Belarus,” Pochobut said on June 10 in Białystok. “I would like to go home. My home is in Grodno.”
