The Trump administration has the tools to force the Kremlin to “back down.”

The upcoming visit to Kyiv by U.S. President’s Special Envoys Steve Whitcoff and Jared Kushner, which follows CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s recent trip to Moscow, suggests that the U.S. side has likely devised a new plan and is now trying to push it forward. This view was expressed by Ukrainian journalist Ivan Yakovina on his Telegram channel.

“They themselves buried the ‘Spirit of Anchorage,’ and in general, they wouldn’t have made the trip just for the sake of old ideas. They clearly have something new, and they themselves think it might work. Perhaps it’s just a new version of the ‘grain deal,’ or perhaps something much more serious,” the analyst writes.

According to the journalist, the Trump administration has the tools to force the Kremlin to “give in” and make peace.

“If Trump decides to really put pressure on Putin, the latter will cave: Russia is already very weakened, especially economically. Of course, I understand that there’s no point in hoping for sensible behavior from Trump or rationality from Putin. But even a stick can shoot once a year! We’ll see,” the columnist added.
