Sweden Has Signed A Deal With The U.S. To Purchase Ten HIMARS Systems

For $729 million.

Sweden will purchase HIMARS rocket systems from the American company Lockheed Martin for $729 million. The deal was announced by Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonsson at a press conference on Monday.

According to Jonsson, under this agreement, Sweden will acquire approximately ten HIMARS systems from the U.S. corporation, as well as ammunition for them. Deliveries of the systems are expected to begin in 2027, according to the country’s Ministry of Defense website.

Ammunition for the HIMARS will be manufactured in Sweden by Saab in collaboration with Lockheed Martin.

The Swedish Minister of Defense and the Finnish Minister of Defense Antti Hykkänen also signed a Joint Declaration on cooperation in the field of rocket artillery between the two countries. It covers training, professional development, and capacity building for artillery personnel in the neighboring countries, as well as maintenance, supply chain security, and manufacturing cooperation.

Finland uses the American Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) M270, which employs the same munitions and components as the HIMARS.
