EHU Rector: “There haven’t been any offers to return to Belarus”

The European Humanities University rector refutes information that the Belarusian authorities has offered the EHU to return to Belarus.
The reports that the EHU allegedly had been offered to return to Belarus have been received by the Charter’97 press-centre from the head of the Free Theatre Nikolay Khalezin
Anatol Mikhajlau, the EHU rector was categorical:
“It was a great surprise for me to become acquainted with Khalezin’s statements. I cannot say anything but to call it great absurd. Nobody started such talks with me, there haven’t been any offers.
I would like to note another thing. Firstly, Khalezin makes reference to some “workers of the university”. It is interesting why they are speaking on the behalf of the regime? Who has given them such a right? Secondly, the stage director says that Mikhajlau would accept such a proposal gladly. And again, why is such a conclusion? What is the ground for saying that if he hadn’t even spoke to me. Such statements do not bring anything but harm,” the EHU rector said in an interview to “Nasha Niva”.
Does the rector exclude that such a proposal could be made for him?
“The issue of the EHU was touched upon in the resolution of the European Parliament on Belarus. Return is possible only when conditions inside the country improve. Sorry, where can we return today? Are we to return in order to introduce a position of a deputy rector on ideology?” Mikhajlau said.
As we have informed, the EHU was closed in summer 2004. Since 2005 the university transferred to Lithuania. Education for masters and bachelors degrees, full-time education and extra-mural courses are provided. Every year more than 1,500 persons study in the EHU. Its diplomas are recognized in the European Union.
