Lukashenka’s security service didn’t allowed oppositionists to Victory square on May 9

Presence of oppositionists on official events dedicated to Victory Day was considered to be “undesirable”.

On May 9, leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka and five members of the UCP youth organization “Young Democrats” brought flowers to Victory square in Minsk to pay tribute to memory of the fallen during the World War II.

“But as we tired to go through a cordon of militiamen and people in mufti, responsible for security of the event, we were taken aside and encircled. Some people in mufti said they were officers of the president’s security service and said our presence at the event was undesirable,” Lyabedzka told BelaPAN.

“I wasn’t able to imagine this. My grandfather died in war, two my uncles died, too. It turns out now that it is “undesirable” for me to pay tribute to their memory,” the politician resented.

According to Lyabedzka, after he hadn’t been allowed to go to Victory square, he and activists of the youth UCP organization “Young Democrats” went to the military cemetery in Minsk and laid flowers to the monument to unknown soldier and to the monument of Hero of the Soviet Union Barys Akrestsin.

According to the politician, they were followed by secret services officers in mufti.
