Doctors don’t give concrete information about the health condition of the political prisoner and ask journalist to address the administration of the detention facility.

“How is Mikalai Autukhovich recovering after hunger strike?” Radio Svaboda asked the chief doctor of a medical unit of the pre-trial detention center in Valadarski Street, where Autukhovich is kept.

“He is recovering fine. I ask you not to phone here any more, it is forbidden. Address the administration for any information,” Alla Mikheeva told.

Mikalai Autukhovich was on hunger strike for 91 days from April 16 to July 16. According to lawyer Pavel Sapelka, the prisoner of conscience has lost more than 35 kilograms of weight. Doctor Alla Mikheeva said Autukhovich was given drips for some weeks to support him.

The lawyer, who visited Autukhovich last week, told he had received juice and vegetables. “He began to drink diluted juice, then concentrated juices, then fresh vegetable juice, and then porridge. The recovering after a hunger strike is as long as the hungry strike itself,” the lawyer says.

We remind that Mikalai Autukhovich and two activists of the entrepreneurs’ movement from Vaukavysk Yury Lyavonau and Uladzimir Asipenka were detained on February 8 with the approval of the prosecutor of the Hrodna region. On February 18, the three were charged under article 218 of the Criminal Code (intentional damage to or destruction of property of citizens).

Mikalai Autukhovich held a three-month hunger strike in a detention facility in Minsk he stopped it only on July 16; doctors say he is in critical condition.

Human rights activists consider the detained to be political prisoners drawing attention to the fact that Autukhovich and Lyavonau were convicted before and found prisoners of conscience by the international community.
