Belarus hasn’t faced epidemics, earthquakes, tsunami, wars, or volcanic explosions.
Radio Svaboda read a letter today that was sent to the radio by Kastus Sirel, a dweller of Ushachy village (the Vitsebsk region).
“Alyaksandr Lukashenka said many years ago that he wouldn’t lead the Belarusians behind the civilized world. But he has recently promised we would live like in Europe in 2011 – this means we wil live like civilized people in the civilized world. And his last statement in Talochyn: “We’ll go to dugouts, but will preserve sovereignty and normal living.” Mr Lukashenka, you have confused us – why does the way to the European life lie through dugouts? Will we follow the civilized world or not?
Another campaign is being carrying out in the country: every village must have street lightening, like in the civilized world. A street lantern appeared in Penno-Niva village near Uhsachy, where only one woman lives. Some time later, officials visited the old woman to check if the lantern worked. Such a c conversation they had:
– Does the street light works?
– I don’t know, son. I never turn it on.
– Why?
– I am afraid, son. If bandits see the light, they wil come, robe and kill me. If they see no light, they will think nobody lives there and go to another place.
– ???
It should be noticed that the old woman has reasons to be afraid – there were cases of robbing old people. Rumours are circulating around the district gathering terrifying and sometimes unbelievable details.
Mr Lukashenka, tell us, would you like to live in Penno-Nova and go to bed with just one thought for many years: will bandits kill me today or not? Do you thing this life is normal? How can you explain that the population of our district has reduced four times under your rule? We haven’t faced epidemics, earthquakes, tsunami, wars, or volcanic explosions.
