Party of Communists registered under new name

5

The Ministry of Justice handed in the registration certificate to the Belarusian left party Fair World.

BelaPAN learnt this from Dzmitry Yanenka, a member of the party central committee.

“A Ministry of Justice representative handed in the registration certificate. So, now we have the right to use the new name of the Party of Communists of Belarus,” he said.

A decision to rename the Party of Communists of Belarus into Fair World, the Belarusian Party of the United Left was taken on October 25, 2009, at the second sitting of the XIV special congress of the party. As the party leadership thinks, the new name allows attracting not only the youth, but also representatives of other left-wing organizations, failed to be registered officially.

In late December, the Ministry of Justice delayed registration of the appropriate amendments in the Party’s charter for a month. The Ministry said the new name contains the word ‘united’, though the party didn’t unite with other parties. The second claim related to the word ‘communists’. The Ministry of Justice said taking into account the new name of the party, this word couldn’t be mentioned in the charter, because the party is not a communist one anymore.

The party thinks the Ministry’s remarks were not so principal and decided to agree with the Ministry in order not to threaten registration of the new name and amendments to the charter.
