Drinking beer forbidden in woods, house entrances, on balconies in Belarus

172

Parks, public gardens and stadiums are not the only places where drinking alcoholic beverages is forbidden under the new rules.

Drinking beer is forbidden in public places in Belarus since February 23. An offender will have to pay a fine from 1 to 8 basic units (35,000–280,000 rubles) if he or she is caught for the first time. If caught for the second time, an offender will have to pay 580,000 rubles, “Komsomolskaya Pravda v Belarusi” reminds.

“One of the most popular questions is if it is allowed to drink beer if a bottle is covered with a paper bag. The answer is no!” Aleh Haidukevich, the chief of the Frunzenski district militia department says. “It doesn’t matter whether do you have a bottle in a paper bag or not.”

A great surprise was the news that drinking beer on a balcony is also forbidden. As militia says, a balcony is a public place.

“Imagine, you and your friends are sitting on the balcony of the ground floor drinking beer. All passers-by see this. Of course, a balcony is a public place, so drinking alcohol there is forbidden,” militia says. “It concerns balconies on any floor.”

Minsk militiamen began to fine offenders since February 23. One person was brought to administrative responsibility and four got warnings in the Frunzenski district of Minsk.
