Participants of “Stop Petrol” actions report from the spot on social network sites and post videos.

Car owners in Mahilou expressed their dissatisfaction with petrol price rise on June 7, “Mahilou on-line” website reports. At 7 in the evening, drivers began to gather on a parking near the central bus station. Participants of the action pasted stickers “Stop Petrol” to their cars. A column of cars moved to the city executive committee. As it turned out, Mir Avenue in front of the committee’s building was blocked by traffic police officers, who were allegedly performing preparatory works to paint road marking.

The action was initiated by a group “Stop Petrol Mahilou” on a social network site. The group stands against ungrounded fuel price rise.

As BelaPAN learnt from Dzmitry Shukhrai, one of the coordinators of the action in Brest and member of the organizing committee to create the Belarusian Christian Democracy, a flash mob against increasing petrol prices was held in Brest in the evening of June 7.

The action was attended by 10 car drivers and some people on scooters and bikes.

According to Shukhrai, a part of participants pretended their cars had broken and stopped on Brest’s central street.

“During 40 minutes, starting from 6:30, they were pretending they were trying to fix the car,” Shukhrai said. “They also were handing round leaflets about “Stop Petrol” action. About 200 leaflets were distributed.”

A similar action was held in Homel.
