Homel inhabitant arrested for speaking Belarusian at bank

Vasil Takarenka visited “Belprambudbank” to buy foreign currency needed for his 12-year-old son’s vacations.

Radio Liberty informs that security guard Uladzimir Hutouski did not like the fact that the visitor was speaking Belarusian. He started finding out who Takarenka was and what he was doing at the bank. They did not understand each other because Takarenka spoke only Belarusian and the security guard – Russian.

The guard called the police and policemen in helmets and with guns delivered Takarenka to the police office. However, he was released soon afterwards because even strangers confirmed that Vasil had not done anything unlawful at the bank.
