“European Belarus” activist Viktar Kalesnik was transporting leaflets about the People’s Assembly and “Narodnaya Volya”, an independent newspaper, from Minsk to Polatsk.
His car was stopped by policemen on the way. They ordered him to go to the district police department of Lepel. There all printed materials were seized from him.
Viktar Kalesnik told to Radio Svaboda that policemen had not given him any documents about seizure of the leaflets and several hundreds of newspapers:
“Everything that I had in my car, was simply placed into big cardboard boxes and taken away somewhere. In fact, I have been robbed at Lepel district police department: my property was taken from me by force, no report was drawn up about that. I was not even told about the reasons of detention.”
The activist says that he is going to get back the seized things, though he does not have documents about the property seized:
“I do not want to make a present to anyone, 10,000 leaflets about the People’s Assembly and 5,000 leaflets of “European Belarus”. That is why in one of the next days I am going to visit Lepel in order to file an application to the prosecutor’s office about illegal actions of policemen.”
