Speaker of lower house: Nothing could be expected from parliamentary election in Belarus

Persuading Europe that it is necessary to continue the dialogue with the authorities of Belarus without demanding any concessions from the Belarusian side, Uladzimir Andrejchanka has done a big mistake.

He confessed that it is pointless to expect anything from the upcoming parliamentary election in Belarus, AFN writes.

“Recently some statements have been made by European parliamentarians, that cooperation is to start when the election to the Belarusian parliament becomes democratic and recognized by the countries of the West. Authors of such statements are living on expectations of the year 2012. I would like to stress that our parliament has been elected on the basis of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus and in line with our Electoral Code, and I’m stressing, which has been amended considering recommendations of European colleagues. There are no doubts about legitimacy of the Belarusian parliament, and there could not be ones,” Andrejchanka stated.

“The question is not what should be expected from the parliamentary election of 2012, but whether the European countries are aimed at renewing partnership relations. A constructive dialogue is beneficial for all sides today, and it is not the most sensible approach to lose a year in expectation of 2012.”

As an example, Andrejchanka offered an official visit to Belarus of the parliamentary delegation of China headed by U Bango.
