Syarhei Kavalenka not allowed meeting brother

Vitaly Kavalenka has been denied a meeting with his brother, a political prisoner Syarhei Kavalenka.

Representatives of the remand prison in Valadarski Street in Minsk have explained that the permission for a meeting had been issued by the city court of Vitsebsk, and the case of Kavalenka is now forwarded for cassation in Vitsebsk regional court. That is why permission of Vitsebsk regional court is needed, Radio Svaboda informs.

On March 23 the wife of the political prisoner Syarhei Kavalenka met with the administration of the medical unit of the prison in Valadarski Street. She was told that they still do not know when a council of physicians is to be assembled to discuss Kavalenka’s health, in order to formulate measures for further transition from the hunger strike to normal feeding for Kavalenka.

Alena Kavalenka plans to meet with the leadership of the Corrections Department to discuss saving Syarhei Kavalenka’s life.
