Ivan Eismant worked in the police for eight years.

By education Ivan Eismant is not a journalist. He graduated from the Law Faculty of the Police Academy, and worked in Hrodna under specialty. He served in the police till the rank of the captain. Ivan got on TV quite by chance. In 2006, his sister Hanna, who at that time was already working for the Belarusian Television, invited Ivan to try his hand in the audition for a TV presenter. He recalled that he was wearing Dzianis Kuryan's jacket at the audition.

According to the official legend, he was asked to take a pseudonym on TV, since, they said, it was not very good when the newscaster called Eismant transmits the words of the sports news correspondent with the same name. As a result, the TV presenter became Ivan Mikhailau, which sounds like his patronymic.
