Igor Girkin Arrested In Russia

(Updated) The saboteur was taken directly from his house.

On Friday, July 21, law enforcement officers of the Russian Federation detained Igor Girkin (Strelkov). This was told to RBC by two law enforcement sources and confirmed by Strelkov's lawyer.

Law enforcement officers of the Russian Federation took Strelkov from his house around noon. Employees of the Investigative Committee are conducting a search in his apartment.

According to preliminary data, the detention was carried out at the request of a former employee of the Wagner PMC.

Miroslava Reginskaya, the wife of Igor Strelkov, told the details to the Russian Telegram channel VCHK-OGPU:

“Today, at about 11:30, representatives of the Investigative Committee came to us. I was not at home at that time. Soon, according to the concierge, they took my husband under the arms and led him away in an unknown direction.

From friends, I managed to find out that my husband was charged under article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (extremism).

I do not know anything about the whereabouts of my husband, he did not get in touch.

At the time of the arrest, I was not at home.”

Strelkov is one of the most ardent supporters of Russia's war against Ukraine. Recently, he has criticized the Russian leadership and especially the military command for failures in the course of hostilities in Ukraine.

In November 2022, the court in the Hague found Strelkov and two of his alleged accomplices guilty in the case of the crash of a Malaysian Boeing in the skies over the Donbas in July 2014, and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
