Gabrielius Landsbergis urges Brussels.
Lithuania believes that after the EU approves new sanctions against Belarus, they should be strengthened. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis made astatement.
According to the Lithuanian minister, sanctions against Belarus should have been adopted long ago. He urged the EU to go further.
“New sanctions against Belarus were approved after a year-long break – something happened that should have happened a long time ago. Belarus supports Russian aggression in Ukraine, the human rights situation is still worsening, and the territory of Belarus is used to bypass sanctions against Russia,” the minister said.
He confirmed that the new package provides new restrictions on dual-use goods and aircraft parts. According to him, this will help prevent “the goods on the battlefield”, as well as fight against the bypassing sanctions against Russia through Belarus.
“However, we are not to be passive – the rest of the sanctions package must be adopted immediately. I hope we don't have to wait so long," Landsbergis said.
