People in Bashkortostan are dissatisfied with the policies pursued by Moscow.
Residents of Bashkortostan want to regain control over the money and resources that belong to their republic. Tatar activist and journalist Leila Latypova stated this on the FREEDOM TV channel.
“Given the unprecedented scale of repression, it’s scary to talk about any kind of secession now. I think that for a person who is inside the republic and sees everything, it is still difficult to imagine that something else will begin to collapse around them, the usual picture of the world,” she said.
According to her, in Bashkortostan there has always been dissatisfaction with the policies pursued by the so-called federal center — Moscow.
“This is a siphoning of resources, including economic ones. After all, Bashkortostan is one of the richest republics within Russia. But at the same time, people live in it completely incommensurate with what is stored in the depths of their homeland. So, yes, there have always been conversations about federalization, probably now there are more of them,” said the activist.
In her opinion, only a referendum will make it possible to find out what the residents of the republic want.
“People just want back what they had. First of all, to have fair elections for the head of the republic and control over the money and resources that they have — an opportunity to determine their own future,” summed up Leila Latypova.
