Lithuanian Foreign Ministry: Putin Will Be Deterred By Macron

The Russian Federation is facing a strategic defeat.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis claims that statements by French President Emmanuel Macron regarding the possible deployment of NATO armed forces in Ukraine play a role in deterring nuclear threats from Russian leader Vladimir Putin. He announced this on his Twitter (X).

According to him, earlier Western countries tried to warn the head of the Kremlin against a possible further escalation of tensions, especially in light of the delay in the supply of weapons and assistance from allies to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“This obviously hasn't worked. Putin is much more likely to be deterred by EmmanuelMacron's strategic ambiguity and clearly defined goal of defeating Russia,” Landsbergis said.

French leader Emmanuel Macron said it was inappropriate to threaten France with nuclear weapons as the country had the means to respond. He noted that nuclear states should “first of all feel protected” because they have such weapons. According to Macron, he has not spoken with Kremlin head Vladimir Putin for several months, and such dialogue took place “when it was necessary.”

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron told his environment that he would have to make a decision on sending troops to Ukraine in 2024. According to Le Monde, the French president was concerned about the deteriorating situation in Ukraine, where a full-scale Russian invasion has been ongoing for more than two years, which is “going to a dead end.”
