It is known that Germany is funding the production of this weapon.
At the Eurosatory 2026 international defense exhibition, held in Paris from June 15 to 19, the new Ukrainian “Bars RS” cruise missile was unveiled to the public for the first time. Analysts at the industry publication Defense Express suggest that this weapon may already have been used in strikes against Moscow, specifically during the attacks on May 17 and June 18 of this year.
Germany is funding the production of this weapon. For security reasons, the name of the manufacturer is not disclosed; however, the published specifications of the “Bars RS” allow for an assessment of the missile’s capabilities. According to data from Jane’s, these cruise missiles are already being used to strike targets within the Russian Federation at ranges of up to 1,000 kilometers. The “Bars RS” variant differs from the base version in that it has a larger fuel tank, a higher maximum takeoff weight, and a heavier warhead.
The warhead of the “Bars RS” version weighs 22 kilograms. With a fuel tank capacity of 95 liters, the missile’s maximum takeoff weight reaches 135 kilograms. It is capable of reaching a cruising speed of 400–450 km/h, and its maximum speed is 620 km/h. There are also reports of another variant with a takeoff weight of 220 kilograms. Overall, the Bars cruise missile family appears to consist of three variants with different warhead weights: 22, 60, and 105 kilograms.
According to Jane’s, approximately 7,000 launches of missiles from the “Bars” family have been carried out to date. Experts note that the appearance of this Ukrainian-developed missile was not declassified until December 2025, although by that time it had already been used to strike targets in Russia, with salvos reaching up to 100 units simultaneously.
The use of “Bars” cruise missiles in the May and June attacks on Moscow is confirmed by video footage from social media. At the same time, the Russian side reported detecting two different variants of this weapon—the “Bars RS” and the “Bars SM Gladiator.”
