Lukashenka’s Oil Grievance

Putin has oil, Aliyev has it, Tokayev has it, but the Belarusian dictator does not.

“But I don’t believe that we don’t have larger volumes of oil... I’ll say it straight: we need to dig and look... I don’t believe that in our depths there isn’t what we need. Now, if you solve this problem to some extent, a monument to you can be erected anywhere.”

This is Lukashenka’s farewell message to the new Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.

Lukashenka reminds the character of the adventure film by Yuli Gusman. He keeps hoping that there will be oil, gold — anything that can solve his problems, free him from dependence on Putin, help him retain power and pass it on to inheritance.

It’s a shame: Putin has oil, Aliyev has it, Tokayev has it, but Lukashenka doesn’t.
