The U.S. president announced increased pressure on Russia.
United States President Donald Trump believes that Ukraine and aggressor country Russia will soon sit down at the peace talks table. According to him, the United States together with NATO is now "increasing pressure for peace" between the countries.
He said this on October 9, during a meeting with Finnish leader Alexander Stubb at the White House. The American noted that this would be the eighth war he has managed to end.
Ukraine and Russia
Trump said the Ukrainians and Russians "have many reasons" to negotiate.
"This is a terrible war. It's worse than any conflict since World War II. Look at the people who are being killed there. It's Russia and Ukraine. I think we will make an agreement there, I believe we will. I think they will come to the negotiating table soon," he said.
When asked if the US was going to increase pressure on the aggressor country for a peace deal for Ukraine, Trump said he was already doing so with NATO. The US president also allowed the imposition of additional sanctions against Russia, he said "it's possible."
"We're all stepping up the pressure. NATO is doing a great job, and they are increasing the pressure. And we sell a lot of weapons to NATO. And it goes, I believe, mostly to Ukraine specifically. It's up to them. But they buy weapons from the United States. We make an agreement. The best weapons in the world," the US leader emphasized.
