The U.S. president explained his priorities.
U.S. President Donald Trump said that he is ready to defend Finland in case of an attack by Russia. At the same time, he believes that Spain should probably be excluded from the NATO bloc.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the White House broadcast.
In particular, Donald Trump met today with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and they spoke to the press together.
In the course of the conversation, Trump was asked if he was prepared to defend Finland if "Russia and Putin" attacked it. He responded by saying:
"Yes, I would defend. They're members of NATO. I would defend. They're beautiful. But I don't think it's going to happen (Russian Federation attack - ed.). I don't think he (Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin - ed.) will do it. The chances are very small... Because your army is big as for your country. You have a powerful army, one of the best, and we will definitely be there to help," Trump said.
The US president also spoke out about Spain during the communication. In particular, he does not rule out that because of the low level of military spending, this country should be removed from NATO.
"We had one laggard. It was Spain... You should call them and find out why they're lagging behind. And they're doing well too, you know. Thanks to a lot of things we've done, they're doing well.... Frankly, maybe you should expel them from NATO," the US president said.
